Ulinda Athletics is a Kwa Thema based road running, track and field and cross country athletics club that also serves the communities of Tsakane, Duduza, Springs, Dunnotar, Nigel, Sharon Park, Selcourt and the surrounding areas.

Our focus is on promoting a healthy and fitness conscious lifestyle for our members whilst cultivating and developing up and coming talent to compete at the highest level.

We welcome all members from these communities to join our club and take part in our various sporting codes and events.

What We Offer

Road Running & Race Walking

Our road running / walking activities include elite as well as development teams. We participate in most race events across the country and our athletes are always achieving podium finishes as well as provincial and national colours. View our events and gallery here.

Track and Field

The Track and Field season begins in September and ends in March. Our athletes compete in all the disciplines within track and field (including participating in the South African Masters) and our elite athletes are constantly awarded provincial and national colours. Cross Country

The Cross Country season takes place between April and July each year. Our members of all ages participate and have a very strong presents in the Cross Country events that take place throughout the Gauteng region. Kwa Thema Street Mile Challenge 2019

Comrades Marathon 2018

Preparations for the ultimate human race came to a climax with a well-deserved send off from the team. The day’s proceedings started with an early morning farewell chairperson breakfast run followed by a braai and well wishes from fellow club members. With that kind of send-off, it was no wonder Team Ulinda did very well indeed as Sandile Khumalo claimed a bronze medal after finishing in a time of 10:32:29 and Kholiwe Khoza also claimed a bronze medal after finishing in a time of 10:53.52 and the rest of the team members obtaining vic clapham medals as follows; Motlalepule Masinga 11:26:36 and Joyce Legadima 11:50:42.

It was a happy hunting ground for our junior development team who obtained podium finishes at the Garbie 15km race held in Springs recently. Lethabo Morapedi (right) and Dumisani Masina (left) completed the race in a time of 52min 18 sec and 52min 21 sec to claim 2nd and 3rd spot respectively.

Queen of the Mountain

Well done to Joyce Legadima for conquering Mount Kilimanjaro recently. Joyce’s next challenge is the Two Oceans and Comrades Ultra Marathons respectively.

Birchwood 10km Race

Kholiwe Khoza claims the silver in the masters category of the Birchwood 10km race.

SA Masters Athletics

‘Moagi goes for gold and gets it’ This was the headline in one of the local news papers after Moeketsi won the 10 000m run at the Cape Town stadium at an event organised by the SA Masters Athletics. A day before he had obtained silver after coming second in the 3000m steeplechase even. The only reason I did not get the gold for steeple chase was the weather, I was frozen from the head to toe, Moeketsi told the journalist. But this was not the only reason Mr Moagi was in the Mother City, accompanied by his spouse at an awards gala dinner he was awarded with national colours for achieving a silver medal in the 3000m steeplechase in Perth, Australia in 2016. What an achievement!

It was a proud moment when team South Africa represented by Moeketsi Moagi took to the podium to claims his silver medal for the country after finishing second in the 3000m steeple chase at the World Masters Championships held in Perth, Australia.

Youth and Juniors Provincial Championships 2017

Three Ulinda Athletes shine at the Youth and Junior Provincial Championships hosted by the Central Gauteng Athletics held at the Germiston Stadium on the 4th of March.’ Siyabonga Dube came 1st in 100m; Kamogelo Lefatola 1st Triple Jump and Lucky Mbonani 3rd on Steeplechase.

Jacky Gibson 21km Race

Kholiwe finishes the 21km race in a time of 1:53 to claim the 2nd spot in the masters category.

Ermelo Marathon 2017

Zanele and Mmeli (development team) claims to spots in the 10km race.

Grand Master Athletic

Gogo Seabi who turned 79 in August obtained silver after finishing second in her age group proving that age is nothing but a number. Pule Tjaoane’s run of good form paid off handsomely when he also obtained a silver medal after finishing second in the 8km race. Simphiwe Thobela, Nkanyezi Ziqubu obtained second position in the team category.

Banele Mkwanazi and Mmeli Matsaba finished in style by coming first in the team category after finishing position three and four respectively. However, it was not to be for Karabo Mhlanga, the 2017 MTN 10km junior champion as she was forced to quit the race due to a stomach ailment. Lastly, Zanele Maisa obtained position two also on the team category.

Colgate 32km and 15km 2017

It was celebrations all round from fellow team mates when Zanele Maisa came second in the Colgate 15km race. Celebrating with Zanele (red shirt) is Gogo Seabi, Kholiwe Khoza and Executive member and COO for cross country, Busi Mbatha.

Soweto Marathon 2016

It was a fantastic day in the office for Kholiwe Khoza who obtained a podium finish in the Masters category at the Soweto Marathon.

Allan Robb 15km Race 2017

It’s gold for Kholiwe Khoza as she claims the first spot in the masters category at the Alan Robb 15km race.

Tricolor Games 2018

Happy Dingile is going to Reggio Emilia in Italy for the 6th Edition of the “Giochi Del Tricolore” translated to mean Tricolor Games to participate in 800m and 200m on Track and Field. The Games are part of the OR Tambo centenary celebrations which commenced in 2017.
